Anne Rutherford is an Associate Professor in Cinema Studies at Western Sydney University. She is the author of ‘What Makes a Film Tick?’: Cinematic Affect, Materiality and Mimetic Innervation (Peter Lang, 2011) and numerous articles on cinematic affect and embodiment, cinematic materiality, mise en scène, film sound, Indigenous cinema and documentary. Ivan Sen is a writer, director and composer whose shorts, documentaries and feature films have won numerous awards. His first feature film, Beneath Clouds, won the Premiere First Movie Award at the 2002 Berlin Film Festival and the 2002 Best Director Award at the Australian Film Institute Awards. His subsequent films have won numerous awards and nominations and been screened at major international festivals, including Cannes, Toronto, Busan and Sundance. In 2012 he was awarded the prestigious Byron Kennedy Award.

Susan Thwaites is a Lecturer in Film Production and Course Convenor of the Bachelor of Film Production in the Faculty of Arts and Design at University of Canberra. She trained as a cinematographer at the Australian Film Television and Radio School and has worked in the film industry shooting drama, music clips and documentary. Her cinematography work has gained AFI and ASC awards and nominations. Her passion is teaching Australian national cinema, and allowing these films to inform and inspire the screenplays and films of students. Her PhD looked at the role of key production crew, the screenwriter, cinematographer and director, in the adaptation of novel to screen.
