I stole her intuition

and used it as my own

(which you can’t do)

 

it led me to the green

at lunchtime as the

prestidigitator spindled

and spiralled his clubs

into the caddy’s arm

and pulled them out of the

hotelier’s ear, with a receipt

 

I thought to learn some influential

morsel from the councillor

but it was too late

the game was won

and without common ground

drinks futile

 

however, I did my best

circulating with cards

and asking members to choose a secret

which I discerned

and whispered in their ear

 

I had them in my pocket then

with a handkerchief

a rabbit paw

and a dove
